But staff from the Seaton-based inn went the extra mile to complete this year’s Great North Run, raising over £2k for parent company The Inn Collection Group’s chosen charity NE Youth, the north east’s leading youth development charity supporting disadvantaged young people in the region.
General manager Debbie Brown and Keeley Matthewson pounded the streets of Tyneside to complete the 13.1 mile run from Newcastle-upon-Tyne to the coast in South Shields, together with The Inn Collection Group’s operations manager Paul Brown.
The trio had the backing of staff and customers from The Inn Collection Group pubs across the region, including The Kingslodge Inn at Durham and The Amble Inn at Amble in Northumberland, where staff dressed up in fancy dress on Great North Run Day, helping bring the final amount raised to £2,242.31 for NE Youth.
Paul Brown said: “It was an amazing experience. The Great North Run is a north east institution. It was something we really wanted to do together. While it was definitely one of the toughest challenges I’ve done, physically – there are some serious inclines – the day was amazing and knowing we were running for such a great cause kept us all going.
“Each of our inns in the group pulled together and we had a lot of fun together with our customers, raising funds for NE Youth.”
Jon Niblo is CEO of NE Youth. He said: “We place great value on our relationship with The Inn Collection Group and we were thrilled to hear the amount of money they had raised to support our work with disadvantaged young people.
“North East Councils have slashed Youth service spend by 96% in nine years which places additional pressure on our organisation to generate funds via the business community. We cannot thank the brave runners from The Inn Collection Group enough for their support.”
